Swamp Azalea

Rhododendron viscosum
Español: Echinacea
The most aromatic of the azaleas. That last of the azaleas to bloom--in Florida May to June. Flowers are sticky--hence the name R. viscosum.



Specimen plant for moist shady areas. Shady rain gardens.

Tolerance

Not salt tolerant of inundation by salty or brackish water.



Low/no tolerance of salty wind or direct salt spray

Wildlife

Attracts  hummingbirds.

Habitat

Moist-wet sites. Seep swamps, pineland-wetland ecotones, edges of bay swamps, moist woods.
