Listed as Endangered by the State of Florida. Specimen plant, screen, or can be pruned into a hedge. Fall color is orange-red and moderately showy in regions with adequate cold.

Climbs by twining. Train on a fence or arbor, allow to climb trees. Can be used as a groundcover but does not bloom well with that use.

Use as a specimen plant or as an understory in a mixed hardwood forest setting. This tree blooms in early spring before the leaves come out.
