This is a large tree best used in settings where its form can be appreciated. It is both a specimen tree and and shade tree.

The interesting flower shape reminded early settlers of someone standing in a pulpit. Retain if present. Interesting in a moist shade garden as its flowers form a small preacher in a pulpit.

Listed as Endangered in Florida.  Also found in Central and South America and parts of the Caribbean. This species has only recently begun to be cultivated in Florida.  Expect this information to be upgraded as more is learned.  Right now the only native nursery that we know of that is growing this species is Green Isles Gardens near Clermont, FL.

Naturally very rare. Please acquire only from reputable sources. Usualliy said to be perennial, but may not get past the first year. Wildflower garden.

It is listed as Endangered by the state of Florida. Shade tree. Can be used as a specimen tree for its light colored bark. Slow growing.

Moist wildflower garden. As it is tall and thin, it's best planted as a group toward the rear of other plants.

Specimen plant or natural background screen.

Makes a nice ground cover in semi-shady to shady areas.
